Technical Writer: Increase customer satisfaction and sales by developing high-quality, professional software documentation and related artifacts that are technically accurate, consistent, and appropriate for the audience.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Required:
• Ability to define and write documentation targeted to diverse audiences and computer literacy competencies.
• A passion for translating technical and/or complex concepts into concise and comprehensive instructions
• Excellent understanding and usage of Microsoft Office computing environment
• Understanding and usage of non-paper instructional modes including:
o Web-based delivery technologies
o Online help and context-sensitive systems
• Mastery of desktop word processing and technical publication authoring and versioning technologies
• Knowledge of MS Word, FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, HTML
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload and still complete tasks on-time
• Ability to create and use graphics and illustrations appropriately
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to estimate, plan work and manage time
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and changing set of project assumptions, knowledge sources, etc.
• Good application knowledge and user awareness
• Able to accurately estimate task durations and meet schedules
• Excellent understanding of product
• Familiar with relevant business issues as they impact overall project plans
• Utilizes past experiences in order to improve efficiency in tasks and processes

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Bachelor degree in technical writing, English, or other communication degree or other related field. Degrees from a related field should be accompanied by proven business experience in technical writing.
• Software documentation development

• Software online help development
• Document design
• Graphics development and screen captures
• Experience documenting software on at least one of the following platforms: MVS, UNIX, or Windows

Desired:
• Advanced degree
• Technical certifications (i.e.: - Microsoft products, DePaul University Computer Career Program, college certificates)
• Additional technical training through course work and workshops
• Professional organizations membership
• Project management

• Technical writing or desktop publishing for a software products company
• Experience documenting software on all of the following platforms: MVS, UNIX, and Windows
• Software user training development
• Experience in globalization and localization of documentation and help system content
• Experience in reusable content management
