Webmaster Position Description

You will be responsible for the ongoing development of the organization's website. You will also be responsible for supervising day-to-day maintenance on the web site, setting standards for design, performing navigation and browser compatibility, ensuring quality-control for third party content, and maintaining and developing small web applications. Additional responsibilities will include documenting web best practices and writing maintainable HTML/ASP code, updating all content, and advising staff and outside partners on how to best optimize their content for online deployment.

* Professional knowledge of techniques for developing, planning, installing, and maintaining an Internet/Intranet web site, including but not limited to expertise in the languages used, such as HTML, DHTML, Java, JavaScript, UNIX, etc.
* Thorough knowledge of browser compatibility issues for all platforms/major browsers is necessary.
* Competent knowledge of how files work on a server as well as the technical ability to load files to these accounts.
* Strong technical writing ability and a solid sense of graphic design to create and maintain a web site that presents the required information in an easy to use and agreeable format; Professional knowledge Adobe and PhotoShop.
* Thorough knowledge of browser compatibility issues for all platforms/major browsers.
* Expert ability to conduct research on the Internet, to collect and evaluate statistics/metrics; In-depth knowledge of software that runs on the Internet, including, but not limited to search engines, counters, browsers, databases, and plug-ins.
* Thorough knowledge is required of what is possible on the Internet and what is available on the Internet. Must stay current with the rapidly developing technology online through trade publications and surfing the web and must keep current with conventions on the web as the Internet reinvents itself every five or six months; Must have the ability to recognize which advances will enhance the ability of the web site to fulfill its user’s needs.
*Must be the organization’s resource person for the using the Internet and gaining access to the Internet. Analyze, evaluate, determine the need for and recommend Internet software that may be installed on user’s desktops. Attends shows on equipment and software, contacts vendors and maintains liaisons with other agency webmasters.
* Skilled in communicating orally and in writing, including the ability to conduct meetings, presentations, and briefings.

Summary

Under the direction of the organization's senior marketing director, the Webmaster is responsible for the implementation of web pages, maintenance of content and day-to-day management of the web site, and assures quality and filing integrity of web pages.



Responsibilities

Supervises prototyping and implementation of web pages, working with strategic direction from the marketing director.
Plans for regular updates of pages to maintain timeliness of data.
Ensures expert QA: supervises/implements reviews, spell-checks, error checks all web content prior to and after release, to maintain high level of quality of the pages.
Manages day-to-day maintenance of web pates, assuring pages and changes are referenced in the major search engines, and responding to e-mail about the pages.
Writes structured, validated, and documented HTML code for ease of maintenance so that the code can be read and understood by others.
Keeps current with HTML language and web tool developments in order to use the new features.
Is a resource person to the organization on web site capabilities and limitations.
Provides regular status reports to marketing director.


Requirements

Dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in graphic design and/or web site design and maintenance; personnel management; excellent writing skills; HTML editing, site development, and site management skills.
